WHY EAT VEGAN?

As a vegan snack-food company, we think that our products are the best-tasting, healthiest products around. Recently, though, we asked ourselves... does everyone else know why vegan foods are so great? There are so many different ways in which choosing the plant-based option next time you’re browsing for snacks at the supermarket can benefit you— and the planet! Read on and we’ll give you the full scoop on why choosing the vegan option next time may just transform your life.

Better For You

To begin, let’s talk about how eating vegan can benefit your body. Vegan foods are generally much more allergy-friendly, and never include any dairy or eggs, common allergens that often prevent people from eating items such as ice cream or queso. NU Food eliminates the need to avoid the queso on the dip table— our queso is 100% plant-based and completely edible for the many dairy-free folks out there. We even took our allergy-friendly snacks a step even further, and have eliminated other common allergens such as nuts, soy, and gluten, ingredients that cause many other snack foods to be off-limits for those with allergies.  

Another important element to consider is that when common allergens such as dairy, egg, and gluten are eliminated, the alternatives are generally lower in fat, less calorie dense, and are overall better for your body than traditional ingredients are. Vegan snacks are the better choice if you’re looking to maintain a healthy weight and keep your arteries clog-free, but they’re also going to make you, well... just feel better! NU Food vegan snacks are simply made cleaner— they include organic ingredients whenever possible, and are made without any added preservatives or artificial flavorings. When you make the conscious choice to avoid foods that were made in a conventional manner— using harsh chemicals, unsustainable practices, and unnecessary hormones, you’re choosing to consume products that are healthier to consume, and better for the planet. 

Better for the Earth

This brings us to yet another major factor to consider when choosing to eat vegan— vegan foods are much more environmentally friendly, as they eliminate the need for animal-based ingredients. Animal products require huge amounts of land, water, energy and food to produce. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef, while it only takes 244 gallons to produce one pound of tofu! Going vegan means that just one person can save approximately 219,000 gallons of water every year.

Beyond its extremely high water usage, animal agriculture is also responsible for more greenhouse gases than all of the world’s transportation systems combined, according to a United Nations report. The United Nations has proclaimed that a shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. When you buy vegan, you’re not only benefiting your body, you’re helping save the planet. 

Better for the Animals

Still not convinced? Eating vegan does more than combat the effects of climate change... it also helps reduce animal suffering the occurs on a global scale due to the demand for animal-based products. There are many examples of the ways in which animals are suffering due to our demand for animal products— chickens are shoved into overcrowded warehouses, or even worse tiny wire cages, with no natural light, no room to move, and disease running rampant. Many animals that endure tightly packed conditions for their entire lives are living in filth, with no stimulation whatsoever. The lack of space and cleanliness means farmers often go overboard with their use of antibiotics, which can lead to superinfections— or bacteria that has become resistant to antibiotics— to take hold, causing death and disease to be one of the main staples of the average animal living in captivity’s life. These conditions are not only cruel to the animals, but they have a multitude of negative effects on the environment, and on our own health. 

 

Taking the cruelty-free route means you can live, and eat, with less guilt on your conscious. What's not to love about taking steps to combat climate change and animal cruelty while snacking?
